Sweden has announced its sixteenth military aid package to Ukraine, which will be the largest to date with a value of 13.3 billion Swedish kronor (approximately 1.16 billion euros).

This was reported by the Swedish government's press service.

According to the government, the package is designed to enhance Ukraine's air defense capabilities and meet priority needs. As part of this package, Sweden will provide Ukraine with an ASC 890 airborne radar and control aircraft. This aircraft will give Ukraine "completely new capabilities for radar reconnaissance and control of combat operations against targets in the air and at sea," and will also improve its ability to strike targets. The aircraft will be delivered along with training and technical equipment.

Sweden will also transfer its entire stock of BTR 302 armored personnel carriers to support the formation of new brigades in the Ukrainian army. The package also includes Rb 99 (AMRAAM) missiles, which can be used on both aircraft and ground-based air defense systems, artillery ammunition, and resources for the maintenance of previously delivered equipment.

The 16th military support package also includes tanker trucks that are surplus in the Swedish Armed Forces, financial support for coalition forces and resources, financial support for funds, and temporary initiatives that enable rapid and large-scale procurement of equipment for Ukraine.

The package also provides for further strengthening Ukraine's combat management capabilities by supplying terminals with satellite communication subscriptions.

Previously, Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson stated that several countries had requested Sweden to pause plans for sending Gripen fighters to Ukraine due to the focus on F-16 fighter deliveries.

In the fall, media reported that the Swedish government was cautiously laying the groundwork for the potential transfer of Gripen fighters to Ukraine. Subsequently, Pål Jonson stated that after Sweden's final accession to NATO, the possibility of supplying Gripen fighters to Ukraine is not excluded.
