Seoul Intelligence: North Korea has transferred one million artillery shells to Russia

South Korean intelligence has informed the government in Seoul that North Korea has provided Russia with over one million artillery shells for use in the war against Ukraine, according to Bloomberg citing a South Korean lawmaker.

During a closed briefing with South Korean legislators on Wednesday, the National Intelligence Service stated that approximately 10 shipments of weaponry from North Korea to Russia had been sent since August. This information was relayed to journalists by Yoo Sang-Bum, a member of the ruling People's Party who is part of the parliamentary intelligence committee.

According to South Korean intelligence, North Korea has also dispatched advisors to Russia regarding the use of ammunition, which is estimated to be sufficient for about two months, as mentioned by the legislator citing intelligence data.

In late July, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu made a rare trip to North Korea. Shortly thereafter, Russia sent a military plane to Pyongyang, raising concerns that North Korea was planning a significant arms transfer to Russia.

Pyongyang possesses some of the world's largest stockpiles of artillery shells and missiles compatible with Soviet-era weaponry, which Russia uses in Ukraine.
The cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow has intensified as both countries find themselves in global isolation, and Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin held a summit in Russia in September.
