White House: Ukraine to receive F-16 fighter jets after pilot training

The White House has confirmed that the United States will approve the provision of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine after the completion of training for Ukrainian pilots.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan confirmed the existence of a letter from Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to his counterparts in Denmark and the Netherlands, which "formalized" the readiness "to approve the provision of F-16s to Ukraine in consultation with Congress after the training is completed".

"This is a natural extension of what President Biden announced in Hiroshima," Sullivan emphasized, recalling that the American leader had announced the training of Ukrainians on F-16s at the Group of Seven summit in Japan.

He also noted that Washington had not previously abandoned its intention to provide Kyiv with fighter jets.

"This week we emphasized it and put an exclamation point on it," Sullivan added.

Also, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra said they had received permission from the United States to transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. 

Now this issue will continue to be discussed with European partners.
