SKY NEWS: Capture of Bakhmut cost Russia 60,000 killed and wounded

The West estimates that Russia has lost more than 60,000 troops as a result of its attempts to capture the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine.

This was reported by SKY NEWS, citing a Western official on condition of anonymity.

"We believe that the capture of Bakhmut probably cost Russia at least 60,000 casualties in the Bakhmut-Popasna sector during the year-long battle," the official said.

He clarified that 60,000 is a "conservative estimate" of Russian losses in this section of the front, which includes both wounded and dead. Of these, the official added, at least a third are the dead.

The source described the city as "strategically unimportant," adding that, according to the West, "Ukrainian units have withdrawn from the main built-up part of the city."

"We see that the Wagner PMC forces are in the process of withdrawing (from Bakhmut - ed.), at least as of now. Replacing these power elements will require significant efforts from the already overloaded Russian regular forces," he said.

The total number of Russian casualties in the war with Ukraine, according to the Western official, exceeds 200,000.

The project «Ukraine: realities» is implemented by the News agency «Konkurent» together with the Civic Movement «SVIDOMI» and the charity organization Global Empowerment Mission in English for readers from other countries to tell the stories of people who survived the horrors of the Russian occupation.
