Russian missile attack in Uman leaves 23 dead, including 6 children

On April 28, a Russian missile hit a residential building in Uman, Cherkasy region.

The search and rescue operation at the site of the Russian attack on the high-rise building in Uman has been completed, 23 people, including 6 children, were killed and 9 people were injured in the attack.

Out of the 23 dead, 22 bodies were recovered from the rubble, and one person died in the hospital. Among the dead were six children: three boys (one and a half, 16 and 17 years old) and three girls (8, 11, and 14 years old).

All 23 bodies have been identified. A special headquarters was set up where the direct relatives of the victims could submit biological samples for DNA comparison.
17 people were rescued from the rubble.

Two more women are still missing.
 

Zelenskyy talks about his phone conversation with Xi Jinping

On April 26, the leaders of Ukraine and China had their first telephone conversation since the start of the full-scale invasion.

During his phone conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy discussed Beijing's involvement in Ukraine's peace initiatives and emphasized the need to support our country's sovereignty

«We had an important conversation. As for the future meeting, we did not talk about it. As for the important things we discussed, they primarily concerned security. It is very important for us to involve as many countries as possible in our format, our formula for peace, which could then put pressure on the Russian Federation to restore peace, restore our territorial integrity,» Zelensky said.

«We talked about territorial integrity, sovereignty, all these issues and heard respect for all these principles,» the president added.

 

Presidents of the Czech Republic and Slovakia visit Ukraine

The new Czech President Petr Pavel and his Slovak counterpart Zuzana Chaputova have come to Ukraine together on a visit. 

On his official Twitter account, Petr Pavel posted a photo of them in front of a damaged house, probably in Borodyanka.

«Zuzana Chaputova and I share the values of freedom and justice. It is hard to see with my own eyes that Ukrainians are paying the highest price for this, with the blood and lives of their citizens. The fight against the aggressor protects what unites us,» commented Pavlo.

«Last night's shameful attacks on several Ukrainian cities, including Uman and Dnipro, which killed innocent people, remind us that we cannot turn away,» Chaputova wrote on her Facebook page.

This was the first trip to Ukraine for the Czech president. 

Danish Armed Forces confirmed that a Russian special ship was near Nord Stream explosion site

The Russian special vessel SS-750 was near the Nord Stream gas pipeline four days before the pipes were blown up on September 26 last year.

The Danish Armed Forces have confirmed that 26 photos of the Russian vessel were taken from a Danish patrol boat that was in the area east of Bornholm Island on September 22, 2022.

The special vessel is designed for underwater operations and has an AS-26 Priz mini-submarine on board.

As a reminder, in September 2022, explosions occurred in the vicinity of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, which damaged the pipeline's operation. 

The President of Italy calls for Ukraine's accession to the EU as soon as possible

Italian President Sergio Mattarella said that peace following the war must be fair for Ukraine and called for the country's accession to the European Union as soon as possible.

He said this during a meeting with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal at the Quirinal Palace.

«Italy expresses its strong support for Ukraine's accession to the EU as soon as possible, and we welcome the commitment of the Ukrainian authorities to move forward with reforms,» the Italian president said. 

Matarella noted that Italy is ready to fully support Ukraine in all areas and for as long as necessary.
