Ukraine's fight against corruption

On February 1, 2023, law enforcement agencies and security forces conducted a series of searches of many Ukrainian officials and exhibitors. The leader of the «Servants of the People» faction, David Arakhamia, announced the «spring landings» and dismissed the entire management team of the Customs and other personnel issues.

The Security Service of Ukraine said that several large-scale operational and investigative measures are aimed «at the fight against the internal enemy». They carry out the tasks set by the President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Actions are directed against:

• traitors of Ukraine and agents of the Russian special services;
• representatives of organized crime;
• officials, and corrupt officials.

Next week, the Verkhovna Rada has planned a big personnel day. According to some media outlets in the government and parliament, the issue of personnel rotations in the government and the approval of the head of the SSU will be brought up for consideration by the deputies. According to preliminary data, at least six government officials will lose their positions as ministers. The most radical option for rebooting the government would be the resignation of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, which would automatically lead to the resignation of the entire Cabinet.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy commented on the situation as follows:

«Today is a effective day for our state - effective in confronting those who even now tried to weaken Ukraine. We will not allow anyone to weaken our state», – he said.

«I don't want to give political assessments that can be used by these persons in the interests of their protection. But I see from the reaction in society that people support the actions of law enforcement officers. So, the movement toward justice is felt. And justice will be ensured», – the president said.
