Ukrainian volunteers provided humanitarian aid in Kherson on the eve of New Year

For more than 8 months Kherson was under the total occupation of the enemy. The citizens of Kherson went through hell. After the heroic liberation of the city, people are still recovering from the occupation. Volunteers from Lutsk brought them «family packages» and some goodies to create a New Year mood.

In addition, the volunteers brought “family packages” that the team formed together with American partners – the charitable foundation Global Empowerment Mission (GEM). GEM is US non-profit organization, which has been helping Ukrainian refugees and communities from day two of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and was one of the first to deliver aid to deoccupied Kherson. (We wrote about in this article). Global Empowerment Mission headed by a friend of Ukraine, the well-known American philanthropist Michael Capponi.

Destroyed homes, crushed cars, and life under shelling – these are terrible consequences of the hostile occupation of the city. The overwhelming majority of the locals did not leave Kherson from the beginning of the war.

Mrs. Valentina has been living here since the first day of the occupation. The woman tells that the occupiers were everywhere. The locals tried not to cross paths or communicate with them.

Nobody doubted that the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will liberate their city. When this eventually happened, it was hard to hold back the tears, people admit.

«Everyone was crying with happiness. Everyone cried and danced... Thank God, the city is liberated. God Bless the soldiers. We believe in victory. I will meet my sons and grandchildren back» –  says Mrs. Valentina emotionally.

Since Ukrainian defenders have liberated the city, it has become easier to breathe, residents say. Although the enemy continues to shell Kherson, unbreakable people don’t leave their homes and believe in the victory of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the residents of Kherson are still suffering from systematic shelling. But despite this, people continue to confess that this New Year will definitely bring the wonder and the most cherished dreams will surely come true. The fastest ending of the war with our victory –  this is the biggest dream of all people.
